Google Tag Manager Setup and Connection Guide
Setting up conversion tracking is a key step when launching any Google Ads campaign. Without it, you won't be able to understand what actions users take after landing on your website, which traffic sources are effective, and where you can optimize your advertising budget.
In this guide, you will learn step by step how to:
- create a conversion event in Google Ads;
- connect it via Google Tag Manager;
- connect everything with your system (MVP Project).
The end result is a fully configured tracking system that allows you to analyze advertising performance, customize optimizations, and scale successful solutions.
Let's get started with setup!
- Go to Google Ads, the "Goals" section, the "Conversions" tab, Summary and click "Create conversion acrion".

2. Select the source "Conversions on a website".

3. Select the "Subscribe" category and click "Save and continue"

4. Select the "Set up manually using code" event

5. After creating the event, click "Save and continue"

6. On the page that opens, go to the "Use Google Tag Manager" tab. The data from this tab will be needed for further configuration.

7. Go to Google Tag Manager and on the "Accounts" page, click "Create Account"

8. Specify the account name, enter the landing page domain in the "Container name" field, select "Server" in the "Target platform" field and click "Create"

9. Select "Manually provision tagging server" and click "Close"

10. Go to the "Tags" section and click "New"

11. Specify the name of the tag "Subscribe tag", in "Tag Configuration" select "Conversion Linker", check the box "Accept incoming linker parameters", in "Triggering" click "Plus" to create a new trigger, name it "Subscribe", in "Trigger Configuration" select "Custom Event", in the "Event name" field specify "Subscribe" and click "Save"

12. Go to the "Tags" section and click "New"

13. Specify the name of the tag "Google Ads Conversion Tracking", in "Tag Configuration" select "Google Ads", in "Google Ads Conversion Tracking" in the fields enter the values from Google Ads that you stopped at (point 7), in the "Conversion Linking" tab select "true", in "Triggering" select the created trigger "Subscribe" and click "Save"

14. We indicate the received data in the MVP

📌 Important! If you use Google Analytics when setting up postbacks, make sure the GTag field is filled in correctly when creating the landing page.
